It's January and everyone's thoughts turn to resolutions, and we inevitably come up with a long list of tasks designed to make ourselves "better". A common question we get at Kelleher International is "What are people looking for?" or "How can I be more attractive to a potential match?" --
extremely broad questions with "correct" answers that are different for every individual.
I was recently reading an article in Fortune on "Authentic Leadership", and a lot of the characteristics they described in an authentic leader also resonated with the advice we give to our members.
Each of the three broad topics -- Trustworthiness, Self-Awareness and Transparency are critical building blocks for a healthy relationship. In particular I enjoyed the "overlaps" in the Venn diagram of authenticity -- Trust + Transparent = Sincere, Self-Aware + Trust = Generosity. "Authentic" looks a great ideal to aspire to in your personal and professional relationships.
So, as you're putting together your 2011 Resolutions list, consider reducing the total list of todos, and consider adding one core resolution -- be more authentic in 2011!
