I've been matchmaking for more than 20 years and believe that the science-of-love is not some separate area of expertise independent of every other field of knowledge. Over the years I have found great relationship insights in disciplines ranging from botany to industrial design to medicine.
I read a great article in the Harvard Business Review this week on driving change that mirrored much of the advice we give our clients. January is a month of resolutions and we have many new clients that are committing to finding "the One" in 2011. Committing is the easiest part. Doing is the challenge. This HBR article hit on a couple of great points that we echo to our clients who are starting down this road...
- Set Specific Goals -- don't just say "I'm going to find love", commit to specific actions with deadlines
- Take on One Challenge at a Time -- finding romance can't be one of five things you are prioritizing, it needs to be one out of ONE thing you are focused on
- Keep the Faith -- change takes time, stay the course and keep your eyes on the prize
This year could be the year that changes your life, and we should look to any source of knowledge to help us pursue our goals.
