New Year’s Makeover

If you are like most Americans, one of your New Year’s resolutions probably has something to do with your personal health, namely getting into shape. This is especially important to the health of your current or future relationship. While other aspects of your being are more important in how you

interact with others, such as your charm or personality, your physical fitness is incredibly important in forming first impressions with others.

One of the Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition contestants Mike is shown in the video below as he makes his first venture into dating in a long time:

He rated highly with the women he spoke to in regards to his charm and sense of humor, but none of the women were sexually attracted to him. He is perceived as not caring about his health or body image and so is likely to be judged for his appearances. This makes it significantly harder for him to find someone to connect with and form a relationship with. It is true that personality far outweighs appearances in love, but many people, like Mike, are motivated to get into shape for the purpose of getting into a relationship.

This New Year, resolve to look at yourself on a fundamental level. Take into account not only your appearance, but your attitude as well. Don’t be discouraged if you are not in shape yet, instead work toward your goal body image and keep trying to connect with people on a personal level. If a person does not like you for who you are on the inside and for your charm and personality, they are not the right fit for you. But by showing that you care about your health and appearance, you definitely widen the playing field and open yourself up to more possibilities, not to mention improve your own self-esteem and overall health.
