I recently came across an interesting website that is trying to capture the "Secrets of Romance" (here) and it set me to thinking..."what are the real secrets to romance?" As a Matchmaker I've seen every type of pair put together -- alpha males and artistic women, athletes and type-a-overachievers, debutantes and boot-strappers -- and while every couple has their unique dynamic, I often find the "three secret" of their romance to be extremely similar.

1. Shared passions -- this isn't that both members of the couple have the same passion, but that each half of the couple actively shares their passions with each other, and the other half of the partnership tries to embrace it.

2. Expressed Gratitude -- the best moments of romance are not defined by red roses, candle light or violins (although they are nice), they are expressions of true gratitude between two people. "My life is great with you" is one of the most powerfully romantic phrases you can ever say.

3. Regular Cadence -- the more that romance is a "habit" instead of a "surprise", the more it becomes part of the fabric and strength of a relationship.
