However, we aren’t the only ones who have matchmaking down to a science; researchers worldwide have studied relationships and discovered some interesting information that could just help you on your next date! Here are our hand-picked love and relationship facts to improve your dating experience.

It takes one-fifth of a second to fall in love.

When you fall in love, your brain releases a special blend of chemicals to make you feel a sense of euphoria. Some even liken the feeling of love to addiction; it’s something they just can’t get enough of. Stephanie Ortigue published a research study on love and the release of hormones in the brain in 2010. Her conclusion was that oxytocin, dopamine, vasopressin, and adrenaline are all released much sooner after connecting with that special someone than originally thought. How’s that for love at first sight?

Love is a goal-oriented emotion.

Have you ever heard the old adage, “love is blind?” Falling in love might seem a little random at first, but the reality is anything but. In 2012, 20 studies were combined to measure neural activity for both love and sex. The results? Love and sexual desire activate very similar parts of the brain. Emotion, motivation and higher-level thinking were all activated. According to this study, love is not a basic emotion. Science tells us love is actually one of the most complex levels of thought. We always knew our clients were a little smarter than the rest – now there’s proof!

Kissing helps you choose the right partner.

Pheromones aren’t the only thing guiding you toward the right date. According to surveys conducted by Rafael Wlodarski and Robin I. M. Dunbar, kissing can help new partners decide if they want to continue the relationship. It helps established couples maintain relationships, too. Want to know if your partner is “the one?” Pucker up, buttercup! Your best tool has been right under your nose all along.

Small acts of kindness go a long way.

You have to give a little to get a lot when it comes to romantic relationships. More than 4,000 adults in the UK were surveyed on how they make their relationships last. The results showed small acts of kindness such as complimenting your partner or bringing them a cup of tea without being asked go a long way when it comes to maintaining a relationship.

Absence makes the heart grow fonder.

We always try to pair you with your perfect date – but sometimes that means our clients fall in love with someone who lives hundreds (or thousands) of miles away. Recent studies show this might not be a bad thing. Long-distance couples generally report higher emotional satisfaction in their relationships than couples who see each other on a regular basis. This is because couples in long-distance relationships were more inclined to share personal information with each other and have more intimate conversations in an effort to feel that sense of emotional closeness. Couples who saw each other regularly disclosed less about themselves, which made them feel less connected as a result.

It’s our personal opinion that people with more knowledge about dating are more successful in their own relationships. Knowledge is power, after all. Science has a lot to tell us about what matters in relationships and what we can focus on for stronger bonds between partners. These are functional pieces of advice you can incorporate into your own dating life right now. Give us a call and get started!
